Cognitive Neuroscience (EN)

  • Abschluss Master of Science (M. Sc.)
  • Dauer
  • Art Vollzeit

Cognitive processes such as perception, attention, memory, and decision-making are closely linked to the functioning of the human brain. Cognitive neuroscience examines these relationships by combining approaches from psychology, neuroscience, and data analysis. Experimental methods and modern technologies are used to investigate how mental processes arise from neural activity. The field contributes to a deeper understanding of human cognition and supports developments in areas such as medicine, artificial intelligence, and digital technologies.

Cognitive Neuroscience at Medical School Berlin

The English-language master’s program “Cognitive Neuroscience” at Medical School Berlin focuses on the interaction between psychological processes, brain functions, and technological applications. It is designed for students who are interested in research-oriented work and in understanding how cognitive processes emerge from neural systems. The program combines theoretical perspectives with methodological training and is suitable for those who want to contribute to scientific progress and innovation in medicine, technology, and research.

Course Structure, Modules & Key Features

The master’s program is offered as a full-time course and has a standard duration of four semesters with a total of 120 ECTS credits. The program starts on October 1 in the winter semester and is taught entirely in English. Throughout the program, students develop methodological and analytical skills required for cognitive neuroscience research. Early modules introduce research methods, experimental design, data analysis, programming, and statistical techniques. Additional courses address neurobiological foundations as well as cognitive processes such as perception, emotion, memory, attention, and language.

Students can deepen their expertise through elective courses in the third semester and gain practical research experience through a research internship. Scientific practice and academic writing are also part of the curriculum. The program concludes with the master’s thesis and a colloquium in the fourth semester, allowing students to conduct an independent research project within the field of cognitive neuroscience.
